I am Nabou Claerhout a jazz trombone player and I am a researcher at AP hogeschool Antwerp from Sep 2021 till 2023. With my research project "The power of rhythm in jazz improvisation and compositions" I try to shift the focus from harmony and melody to rhythm. I am researching methods to use rhythm as a building block for jazz improvisation and compositions with the aim of creating a didactic tool that allows professional jazz musicians/composers to apply complex rhythmic concepts on their instrument or in their compositions.
